Why "Carl"? Carl was a capuchin monkey who lived in Maryland for the last three decades of the twentieth century. He liked eating raw onions and sleeping under a towel. He could peel a boiled egg in one continuous strip.

So, why "Carl"? Why not? We think Carl in Maryland was a lot of fun. And we think Carl in Philadelphia is also a lot of fun. Serious fun. But not serious. Hope you agree!

Our dinner parties are the heart and soul of Carl. Come to our home and enjoy a seven course dinner shared amongst six to nine people who may arrive as strangers but leave as friends. Begin with a social hour with a welcome cocktail and three dishes, followed by an intimate four-course dinner inspired by the seasons. You can expect excellent food, an unpredictable play list, and playful banter by your hosts Ian & Sharon.

Alternatively, we can bring our dinner parties to your home or event space. Reach out to discuss your vision and we'll try to take this party on the road.
A chef and a college professor walk into a bar ... and, it's no surprise that Ian & Sharon share a passion for culinary education. Carl will be creating bespoke cooking classes in our home or yours. And, look for us around town at venues that provide culinary educational experiences for the food-curious, regardless of prior experience.

Carl is also committed to creating and supporting educational and mentoring opportunities in the culinary arts for motivated individuals who do not have access to traditional educational pathways. We are always open to invitations to work with organizations in Philadelphia to support this aspect of our mission.
Sharon was called the "Godmother of the Philly dining scene" because she loves matchmaking in the city, by helping to connect food or beverage professionals who together can create magic in the spaces in between their individual areas of expertise. With Carl, Ian & Sharon have the opportunity to reap the benefits of the collaborative spirit that pervades the local dining scene.
